A four-year-old boy has died at a Center Parcs resort after being pulled from a swimming pool that features wave and rapids.
Police said officers had attended the leisure complex at Longleat, Wiltshire. They were in support of the South Western Ambulance Service shortly after 11am.
Despite lifeguards swiftly starting first aid, the boy, aged four, died at the scene. Staff members were reportedly in ‘floods of tears’ during the incident.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: ‘Sadly, it’s been confirmed that a four-year-old boy has died following an incident at Center Parcs Longleat Forest near Warminster shortly after 11am this morning (24/12).
‘This is not being treated as suspicious. Our thoughts are with the boy’s family at this difficult time.’
A witness reportedly saw a young boy being pulled from the water at the Subtropical Swimming Paradise.
A member of the public was said to have aided in the rescue.
Pictures showed an empty wave pool after it was evacuated and closed. Center Parcs said in a statement: ‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic news that a young guest has passed away at Longleat Forest today.
‘We are offering our support to the family and to our employees who provided immediate assistance.
‘Our thoughts remain with the family at this very difficult time.’
Holidaymakers staying at Center Parcs have said that a notice had been put up on the park’s TV channel to inform them that the swimming pool remains closed following a ‘serious medical incident’.
