Boy, 14, killed in World Cup violence between France and Morocco

A youngster is reportedly dead amid unrest in the wake of the match between France and Morocco

Following France’s World Cup semifinal win over Morocco on Wednesday, the boy was violently run over by a car during rival football fans clash in the southern French city of Montpellier.

The 14-year-old boy was was immediately rushed to the hospital after being struck by the vehicle but died shortly after his arrival.

Amidst setting off fireworks, hurling flares and other projectiles, the vehicle was approached by a group of people before driving off erratically through the crowd.

Footage shared on social media which purportedly revealed a white car with what appeared to be a French flag being flown from its window on Montpellier’s Rue de la Mosson.

France had been braced for unrest following similar scenes earlier in the World Cup.

Social unrest were also seen in cities in Belgium and the Netherlands after large numbers of the Moroccan diaspora took to the streets.

It was gathered that around 100 people clashed with police in Brussels following Wednesday’s match, leading to arrests.
