A woman has disappeared after she and her husband tried to fight off a shark while snorkeling in Hawaii.

The husband told authorities he searched for his wife but swam back to shore after he was unable to find her.

Dennison was unable to provide any information on the type of shark involved and said there have had no reports of sharks in the water.

Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources senior communications manager Dan Dennison (pictured) had a news briefing on Thursday regarding the missing snorkeler

First responders and officers from the DLNR Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement are now on the scene trying to find her.

The MFD rescue boat is also responding. More details will be released when they become available, police said.
