Zac saved his father Travis from inferno at his Melbourne home last Friday but died on Monday
Brave son who saved father from burning caravan revealed his dad has died from his injuries just days away from celebrating his 42nd birthday.
Travis was living with a brain tumour and had received surgery that left him unable to use the left side of his body. He is understood to have been using a massage chair in the caravan when the device exploded
21-year-old Zac carried his father Travis, 41, out of the caravan after it burst into flames at their home on Kurrajong Crescent at Melton South, Melbourne, at 3pm last Friday.
The son suffered burns to eight per cent of his body while his father was burnt all over his body when both men were rushed to Alfred Hospital.
The devastated 21-year-old broke his silence from his hospital bed to reveal his father had died on Monday – just days away from celebrating his 42nd birthday.
‘He was just the kindest soul ever, he would help anyone in a heartbeat, anyone,’ he told 9News.
Zac had been recovering a few rooms away from his father and sent him a text message to reassure him that everything would be okay.
‘I said I’m right across from you dad,’ he said. ‘I sent a video and said, ‘You’ve got this. See you soon’.’
Zac said he heard screams for help and tried to drag his father from the flames. He now faces the torment of recovering alone for the next two weeks in hospital.
Travis’s mother Marlene said she was still in shock and felt ’empty’ at the loss of her son.
His brother Michael said Travis loved his children and that he was incredibly proud of them.
