The First lady of Ukraine has received a standing ovation as she arrived for her speech at Westminster. The Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s wife, First lady Olena Zelensky expressed her gratitude to Britain for their unwavering support to the Ukrainians in the war against Russia.
She gave the speech in a parliamentary committee room on Tuesday, 29th of November 2022, as she addressed MPs and Peers of Britain. She was welcomed by the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, and among those in attendance was the former prime minister Boris Johnson.
In her speech, she called for justice for the people of Ukraine as the war rages on. When translated, her words were thus ” Ukrainians are going through the terror, which will resonate with you.
”Your islands survived the air raids, which were identical to those that Russia uses now to put us on our knees. We’re hearing sirens every day identical to those which were heard by earlier British generations. You did not surrender and we will not surrender. But victory is not the only thing we need. We need justice.”
Alongside her speech, the First lady showed images displaying the impact of the war on Ukraine. She also showed pictures depicting a Rusian attack on a Vilniansk maternity hospital, in the Zaporizhia region.
The First Lady was praised for her bravery during the war and for coming to solicit help from Britain
