A man who posed as a female gynecologist on Facebook in order to get photos of women’s genitalia has been jailed in Singapore. Ooi Chuen Wei, aged 37 was found guilt of impersonation by posing a female gynecologist by the state court, and has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison.
Ooi was said to have used a fake Facebook page to pose as a female gynecologist and contact different women, asking them to fill out a survey that asked them questions about their private parts and their sexual lives. Sources and documents stated that he had been carrying out this ruse for four years, and had tricked about 38 women into sending him pictures and videos of their private parts.
During his trial, it was estimated that he received close to 1000 photos and images from different women. It was one of the women who had become suspicious of him, that lodged a report to the police after realizing that there was no such doctor as he had claimed to be. The offenses were then investigated after the report by the woman.
The home of Ooi was then raided and his devices confiscated. It was during the course of the investigation that he admitted to tricking the women. During the court trial, the prosecutor asked for a prison sentence of not less than three years and eight months, owing to the amount of time he had carried out the crime, and how many people he had deceived.
The prosecutor further explained that his actions will negatively affect the genuine medical personnel as he had abused the trust the general public has for doctors.
