Titanic catapulted Kate Winslet‘s career, transforming her into a major Hollywood
star. Unfortunately, many made inappropriate comments about the actress’ body,
leaving her insecure.
Aged 21 at the time of the film, the actress
had her body judged after the film’s premiere and became a joke for comedian
Joan Rivers: “If she lost a couple of kilos, Leo [DiCaprio] would have fit in
the door that served as a lifeboat. lives”
Now 45 years old, with an Oscar and numerous
nominations, Kate Winslet spoke about this trauma.
She said: “People talked a lot about my
weight. And I was asked to comment on my fitness. Well, that’s when I got this
label of frank and brave. No, I was just defending myself.
“These comments
damaged my confidence. I didn’t want to go to Hollywood because I remember
thinking, ‘God, if that’s what they’re telling me in England, what’s going to
happen when I get there in the US?’ Furthermore, it interferes with your
growing impression of what is beautiful. I felt very lonely. For the simple
reason that nothing can really prepare you for this.”
