Elizabeth Debicki effortlessly channeled Princess Diana once again when recently filming new
scenes for series five of Netflix‘s The Crown in Croydon, London.
The Australian actress, 31, who is taking over the role from Emma Corrin, sported the late royal’s signature blonde locks
while cutting a stylish figure in an oversized military-style black jacket and
matching black-and-white striped trousers.
In photographs taken during her scenes, filmed last week, Elizabeth is
seen pushing her way through the paparazzi to get into a taxi while in the
South London area.
While it is unknown what exact scene was being filmed for the hit drama,
the Crown’s fifth series of the show will cover the Royal Family‘s history throughout the 1990s.
Over the first three series of The Crown, the Netflix hit has become
well known for bending facts to suit its narrative, and while some artistic
license is inevitable, some critics have been outraged in its rewriting of
history and relationships.
Proving her character’s fashion prowess, the actress can be seen
sporting a black t-shirt featuring gold button-detailing to match those
featuring on the arms of the blazer.
Showing accessories are key, she completes her glamorous ensemble with a
pair of black sunglasses while opting for a smattering of natural-looking
makeup.
Adding a touch of glitz, the actress sports golden earrings, while
holding a newspaper and a black and gold handbag in one hand. Boasting
the Princess of Wales’ signature locks, Elizabeth’s look is finished with a
pair of black heels and a stunning golden watch.
It’s unclear which outfit of Diana’s the costume department is trying to
mirror in these scenes, but the late royal was known for her elegant displays
in numerous sophisticated ensembles.
It is unknown exactly what scene was being filmed from Princess Diana’s
life, or whether the Netflix series is once again taking artistic license with
the late royal. The last two series of The Crown will cover the Royal
Family from the 1990s to 2003. The crew will be picking up the story where it
left off in the fourth season.
The breakdown of Charles and Diana’s relationship will be a central part
of the new series. The fourth series of The Crown, which streamed in
November last year, told the story of the early romance between Charles and
Diana.
It was announced last year that Elizabeth would take over from Emma
Corrin and play Diana for the fifth and sixth series, which will cover Diana’s
death in 1997.
The actress said of her casting last year: ‘Princess Diana’s spirit, her
words and her actions live in the hearts of so many. It is my privilege and
honour to be joining this masterful series, which has had me absolutely hooked
from episode one.’
Meanwhile, Dodi Fayed is expected to play a large part in the next
series of The Crown, with British actor Khalid Abdalla, 39, who starred in the
2007 film The Kite Runner, cast in the role.
The final two series of The Crown will cover the Royal Family’s history
throughout the 1990s and into 2003, however, it is not yet known which moments
will be seen.
